The edition

The texts on this site are the writings of Rabbi Abraham Abulafia as edited and typeset by Amnon Gross. The pages the site names — in citations, in the margin of the text, in the contents — are the printed pages of that edition.

The facts of each book's edition — editor, place, year, volume — are entered from the title page of the volume, book by book. A book whose facts have not been entered is cited without them, never with estimated ones.

What was done to the text

The Word files of the edition were read once, by a script, and cut into segments: paragraph, heading, table, poem. Nothing on the site opens a source file while you read.

The editor's explanations are told apart from Abulafia's text by the size they were printed in; they are shown in the reading, marked with the word „הסבר”, and are not searched.

The permutation tables were rebuilt from the files, and where the converter had flattened them, from the binary file itself. A table that could not be rebuilt was left as it arrived.

The pagination was recovered from Word's own printing of each file: the page openings were laid against the text. An opening that could not be located in the print was estimated between its neighbours, and such a page is marked as estimated in the margin and in the citation.

Sefer ha-Hesheq is printed in two columns — the manuscript in a narrow one, the corrected text beside it. Only the corrected text is here.

The text was not corrected. The corpus reproduces the edition as it was delivered, defects included: Or ha-Sekhel prints pages 79–92 again as 93–106, and so does the site, because the page is what citations rest on.
