Ha-Melammed · המלמד

A treatise in gates that follows the words of the Rav in the Guide of the Perplexed, citing its chapters, from the Explicit Name to the necessary, the possible and the impossible. The text opens in mid-sentence, its gates numbered from the twenty-sixth to the thirty-second; at its close it calls itself the treatise ha-Melammed and "the first part of the Priestly Blessing, called Melammed", and says it gave the reason for those names at the head of the book, which is not in the text. The gates pass from the madness of the amulet-writers and the rule that whoever is not versed in permutation does not know the Name, to the speech of God to the prophets, the tablets and the script, the four causes, riding, and eternity and creation, until the last gate completes the treatise and announces a second part. After its close a further discourse is appended, on the alphabet and on the attributes of mercy and judgement, which its writer says is copied from the words and books of his holy master.
